A Cultural Melting Pot of Flavors
Latino and German cuisines long have co-existed in San Antonio, so it’s fitting that the city’s contemporary culinary scene also encompasses the globe. The much-revered Tex-Mex genre still shines, but diners also can sample French, Mediterranean, Asian and fusion cuisines from top chefs on their culinary journey around San Antonio.
Some of the city’s premier restaurants line the cobblestone paths of the River Walk, but the historic, renovated Pearl Brewery just north of downtown is emerging as an urban culinary destination of its own. It is the location of the third campus of the Culinary Institute of America, the site of a world-class farmers’ market and also where Andrew Weissman, the James Beard-nominated chef and owner of the acclaimed French restaurant Le Rêve, situated his new destination Italian restaurant, Il Sogno
San Antonio celebrates food not only on the table, but also on the streets at culinary festivals. One of the most anticipated food events arrives each November with San Antonio’s New World Wine and Food Festival. This premier wine and food experience combines culinary artistry with the surrounding Hill Country’s natural beauty and wines from award-winning vintners.
